Michelle Hesterberg ’11 and Bethany Bobo ’20 from OutFront MN spoke at this event.

The first Pride was a riot. Each year, the LGBTQ+ community celebrates Pride month in June to commemorate the Black and Brown trans leaders who led an uprising against police brutality and sparked a national awakening of the LGBTQ+ liberation movement during the Stonewall Riots in 1969. This Pride month, we cannot ignore the injustices that continue against our communities, including the epidemic of violence against Black trans women and the Black lives lost to police violence, including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Tony McDade. Learn how OutFront Minnesota, the state’s biggest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, is working towards a world where everybody can live without fear of violence, harassment or discrimination. Learn how you can be part of this movement and how you can show up for current carls, especially those who live at the intersection of being both LGBTQ+ and BIPOC (Black, indigenous, and people of color).
