Come enjoy meeting great Carleton people and learn why Tom Schroeder '87, a dedicated supporter of historic preservation in the St. Paul area, decided to buy and restore a historic limestone building and his journey to become a brewery and restaurant operator.
First opened prior to the Civil War by Bavarian immigrant Anton Waldmann and his wife (Wilhel) Mina, Waldmann is the oldest surviving saloon building in the Twin Cities. Re-opened in 2017 for the first time in 154 years, Waldmann once again welcomes all with the warmth of its wood stoves, virgin pinewood floors, hand-blown window glass, a large collection of 19th century steamboat chairs, whale oil lamps (burning paraffin), and many period maps, photographs and other memorabilia. Enjoy traditionally-crafted house-made lagers, wursts and other honest fare.
If the weather cooperates, we will gather in Waldmann's lovely Biergarten surrounded by four wood fires and an array of infra-red heaters to keep everyone toasty warm.
Parking
Information on parking can be found on Waldmann's website. Ample bike racks are available in their parking lot and adjacent green space.
