Reducing global lead exposure at the source:
a spotlight on spices
with Jenna Forsyth ’07

Thursday, April 16, 2026
3 p.m. Central Time
via Zoom

Jenna Forsyth ’07, has spent the last 10+ years focused on lead exposure research and currently oversees Project Unleaded — an initiative at Stanford’s Wood Institute for the Environment identifying and mitigating priority sources of lead poisoning globally. For her team’s work addressing lead poisoning in Bangladesh, she was named one of the 100 most influential people in Global Health by TIME magazine in 2024.

This presentation will highlight how research in Bangladesh led to a discovery that jumpstarted a broader movement — revealing toxic secrets in the spice supply chain that affect millions of people worldwide.

Prior to studying lead contamination, Jenna spent nearly 10 years addressing global and environmental health problems from contaminants in the air, water, soil, and food. Her work has been featured in The EconomistThe Washington PostVox, The Scientist, and other outlets. She holds a PhD in Environment and Resources from Stanford University, a Master’s of Science in Engineering and Certificate in Global Health from the University of Washington, and a BA from Carleton in biology.
