Carleton Virtual Breakfast Club: A Liberal Arts Approach to Film Restoration and Preservation with Felicity Flesher ’14
Carleton Virtual Breakfast Club
A Liberal Arts Approach to Film Restoration and Preservation
with Felicity Flesher ’14
Thursday, November 14, 2024
11 a.m. Central Time
via Zoom
Felicity Flesher ’14 knew from her initial college campus visits that she wanted to study and work in movies and television, somehow, some way. What she didn’t know was how her Carleton experience and her journey with Hollywood creatives would lead to working in and championing the archives.
Felicity is now a Preservation Coordinator at NBCUniversal, where she helps protect and share all your favorite Universal movies, whether you know they’re your favorite yet or not. In this discussion, Felicity will talk about the overarching process of preserving and restoring films and how working with a vast array of Hollywood rogues (including Kermit the Frog, Frankenstein, and Carleton alum Bob Daily '82), becoming a Jeopardy! Champion, going to library school, and reluctantly embracing the STEM side of her brain helped fuel her cinematic detective work amidst the many ethical and logistical quandaries faced by a studio archivist. Prepare to hear about explosive materials, obscure video formats, international hunts for lost films, and what media archival practices may mean for you.
Cost: None.
