William Richard Young, 64, died Saturday, July 19th at home of complications related to COPD.

Bill was born August 19, 1949 in Iowa City, the son of Richard and Grace Larew Young. He was a 1968 graduate of University High School and received his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Iowa in 1972. On August 20, 1994 Bill married Mary Bryant on the porch at the family farm surrounded by family and friends.

Bill was the fifth generation to work the family’s century old farm near North Liberty, where he raised livestock and grain. He was an area land developer, and realtor with Lepic- Kroeger Realtors.

For over 43 consecutive years “Captain Bill” camped with his fishing buddies at his favorite place, “The Rock” on Lake McCrae, Ontario, Canada, where he was the official cook. He loved to fish, travel and spend time in his machine shed. Most importantly Bill enjoyed family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

He was a member of the Johnson County Cooperative and the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids Board of Realtors. He was a past member of the North Liberty Optimists and the Iowa City Kiwanis.

Bill was the foundation of the Young family. Bill would say, “ I am survived by my loving wife”, Mary Bryant Young of North Liberty; his parents, Richard and Grace Young of North Liberty and Oaknoll Retirement Residence; daughters, Brenda (Richard) Klemesrud of Coralville and Cindy (Troy) Frank of Rock Falls, IL; Grandchildren, Brookelyn, Austin, Emma and Meg; great grandchildren Heidi and Ezra; his sister, Joan (Tom) Ambrose of Wilmette, IL: his brother, Dr. Robert A. Young (Andrea Jensen) of Ann Arbor, MI; nieces, Meg and Sarah and his nephew, Dan; loving friends, Joe (Luanne) Cartsensen; extended family and many friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alex and Sarah Young and White and Vera Larew, all of North Liberty.

    Bill was on 3rd Goodhue paired with Peter Bundy freshman year. Big, strong, handsome guy. Football player. He and Peter had some fine adventures freshman year. He ended up transferring back to Iowa after that and ultimately returned to the family farm in North Liberty.
