Wendy Claire Polk-Monroy, age 60, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010 after a 10+ year battle with Primary Amyloidosis. Wendy, a native Texan, was born and raised in San Antonio where she attended Alamo Heights High School. After graduating in the top of her class she received a scholarship to Carlton College in Minnesota where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Spanish. Wendy began her teaching career in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She met the love of her life of 31 years, Samuel Monroy in Mexico City while leading tour groups from Minneapolis. She lived the first 12 years of her married life in Mexico City where she was a teacher and then principal of Hamilton School. She gave birth to her three wonderful children while living in Mexico City. Then the family moved to McAllen in 1990 where she worked for McAllen Memorial High School for 20 years. She is survived by her husband Samuel; her three children: Sammy, Eddie, and Kelly; her brother Edwin Robert Polk III of San Antonio, TX; her sister Cissie Polk Alexander of Houston, TX.
Wendy had a passion for teaching. She made it her mission in life for her students to have fun while learning. She had the greatest fun loving humor that made everyone smile and laugh. She was the greatest wife, mother, sister as well as the “generala” that kept our family together. We will never stop missing you, and your love for life and your family will never be forgotten.
