Steve was elected president of the Carleton student government for the 1969-70 school year. This was a very contentious time in the world and at Carleton. He worked hard to bring people together, to help the listen to and learn from each other.
At the same time, I was elected student government vice-president. My major responsibility was to select and chair the student government budget committee. Steve offered helpful suggestions in terms of who should be named to the committee, and recommendations about which groups should be funded.
He was a calm, caring, thoughtful, open-minded person.
