Ramon Yslas ’72

Ramón was born to Ramona S. Martinez and Manuel Tapia Yslas in Douglas, AZ.  Ramón grew up in California and Tucson.  He attended Government Heights Elementary, Wakefield Junior High and Pueblo High School.  Ramón had an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy by Morris K. Udall, but due to a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) he suffered during a football game at Pueblo High School, Ramón was unable to attend.

Ramón went on to Yale University and Carleton College, but was unable to complete his studies in Sociology, due to the TBI.  Ramón came back to Arizona and went to work at “Mother Magma” Mine in San Manuel, Arizona.

Ramón was always willing to help his family, friends and strangers.  He gave freely of his time, talents and energy.  Ramón loved to fish and would go at the drop of a hat, he enjoyed being the camp cook too

Ramón was preceded in death by father, Manuel Tapia Yslas.  He leaves behind Mother, Ramona; brothers, Jaime (Chia Li), Jerry (Theresa) and little sister, Julie Ann Yslas; 8 nieces and nephews;  5 great nieces and nephews; Uncles, Aunts, and cousins as numerous as the sands of the seas, and dear friends, “Big” Jon Miles and Rick Ruiz.

He will be greatly missed!   Órale!
