Obituary

Peter Freeman was a history major at Carleton. At the time of the Class of 1963’s fiftieth reunion in 2013, he wrote as follows about his career:

“After graduating from Carleton I spent about three-and-a-half years at the University of Minnesota working on a master’s degree in history while also pursuing my other interests in theater, film and art. When my dad suggested I move on, I accepted a position teaching history at West Liberty State, a small college that was conveniently close to Pittsburgh, PA to enable me to pursue a doctorate there at Carnegie-Mellon University.”

“I spent 30 years at West Liberty teaching European and world history, social science and, after a two-year sabbatical in the early 80s in Los Angeles, film and television production. I usually spent my summers traveling, taking classes in the U.S. and abroad, and visiting my friends in Minnesota and elsewhere. After retirement, my long-term partner, Sandra, and I moved from campus housing at West Liberty State to Wheeling, West Virginia where I continue traveling and taking classes as well as volunteering in the community and in our local Episcopal church.”

Peter died February 5, 2022 in Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling.
