This is the text of Nori Odoi's obituary in the Monadnack (NH) Ledger-Transcript, printed on November 25, 2017. GREENFIELD – Nori Ann Odoi, 64, of Greenfield died on November 19, 2017, at Monadnock Community Hospital after a courageous battle with a year-long illness. Nori was born on July 31, 1953, in Jacksonville, Florida, the daughter of Hiroshi Odoi and June (Luedtke) Odoi. Her elementary education was at Hayt School in Chicago, Illinois, secondary school at Shawnee Mission North, Mission, Kansas, with college courses started at William Jewel in Lawrence, Kansas and finishing in 1975 with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. In her own words, Nori was a jane-of-all-trades; she led her region in door-to-door stoneware sales, produced technical documentation for Lotus, wrote software for Wang & Progress, and finally was the proprietor of Nori...Oh! Confections & Catering. While she never made a career of it, writing both poetry and fiction had a nearly meditative effect on Nori, and she has "mostly been published by accident or conspiracy." Nori lived for life, to know she was not only living to the fullest but doing it the right way. She lived for food, both the creation and the consumption not of quantity, but the utmost quality. She lived to understand all she could about as many topics as possible. Recreation was equally varied. While she did baking and catering, experimenting with her vast repertoire, creating culinary art, was one of her favored pastimes. In support of this, she maintained an herb garden, but also delighted in watching things grow and had a bevy of decorative plants largely rescued from various events. Wound through all Nori did was an almost childlike awe and wonder at discovering something new, be it a particularly nice pattern on a "kinetic sculpture" (most in New Hampshire call them stink bugs) or learning that time does not pass for photons. In addition to her husband, David "Rags" Gilmore, Nori is survived by her siblings, Jim Odoi, Linnell Stanhope, Kim Marshall, and Steve Odoi; and her step-daughter, Valenka Thykjær and her husband, Thomas. She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Marcus and Cecilie. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Nori's name to: Pancreatic Cancer Action Network - www.pancan.org Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 26, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough, NH 03458.
