Neil Sandstad ’65

30 August 1988

Class: 1965

Major: Studio Art

Deceased: July 1, 1988

Neil was co-chairman of the Co-op Committee his senior year and graduated with a Fine Arts major. He then received an MFA degree from the University of Wisconsin and eventually relocated to New York City as Head of Design for Channel 13, the city’s Public Television station. Coincidentally I had moved to the City several years previously and we were “re-united” geographically; he was best man at my wedding in 1979 … and we had a number of summertime “returns” to Minnesota to canoe the Boundary Waters with East Coast friends. I returned from England where I was living and delivered the Tribute at his funeral in Minneapolis in July 1988. He left his parents, Ken and Pat, seven brothers and sisters and a host of friends throughout the States.

Neil was my art professor at Missouri Western University in St. Joseph, Missouri. He also encouraged me to apply to Carleton College as a transfer student, and visited me in campus one Spring. A very good friend of my whole family.
