Matthew Clement Cassidy, Class of 1989, passed away at his home in Wasilla, Alaska on February 28, 2015. Born and raised in Red Wing, Minnesota, Matt is survived by two sisters, four brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. Matt majored in Political Science while at Carleton. The joke was that he was so intelligent and gifted that he graduated without ever having cracked a single book. Matt was quick-witted, adventurous, and generous of spirit. He made many, many lifelong friends at Carleton and will be sorely missed by all of them. Matt was a great conversationalist and a great listener. If you ever got a phone call from Matt, you stopped what you are doing because you were in it for at least 45 minutes. Matt’s storytelling skills were unequalled, a perfect blend of embellishment and truth, and he had the seemingly impossible ability to say something completely outrageous (and sometimes politically incorrect) without offending even one person in the room. After graduation Matt moved to Wasilla, Alaska where he worked as an electrician. Those who had the pleasure to visit him there saw how much he meant to the community. Matt was always generous with his money, his time and his spirit. To know Matt was to love Matt. He will be lovingly remembered by those who knew him. Matt Cassidy stories will be told for years and years to come.
