I remember Mary Jo for her beautiful brown eyes, her tanned flawless skin, and her robust, uninhibited laugh. She always laughed at my jokes, which most likely weren’t all that funny, but the fact that she would always laugh at them naturally endeared her to me. She was always up for a fun time, and she truly enjoyed the company of others. Socially, Mary Jo was a delight to be with, so it makes no sense that loneliness crept into her life. She was one of the classmates I was looking forward to seeing at the reunion. So, yes, Mary Jo is remembered vividly and very fondly. If I only knew…

Having grown up with Scroggins families, I was glad to have seen Tom Scroggins (’68) at a small gathering of Plymouth Congregational Church members at my home, the evening before the service for Mary Jo. Very sadly, Mary Jo’s last years make for such a story of loneliness. The service at Lakewood held together a very nice group of family and friends. As someone remarked, it would have made her happy to see who remembered her.
