My mom, Martha (Strain) Weaver, loved Carleton as a place where people "work hard and play hard." She embodied this ethic until the day she died. Two days before the operation that led to her death, she was volunteering at an elementary school, sharing her love of reading and knowledge. I enjoyed Marty and her many, many walks by my house. She was a lover of plants and was very involved in any garden in the neighborhood. When I was taking out all the old plants, she offered to do it and I came back a few days later and she had dug up every last one of them and shared them all around the neighborhood. THAT was a neighborly and lovely thing to do. She was seemed chipper and loved her adored dog. I was in Arizona when I heard the sad news. It was terribly different to return to this little neighborhood and she no longer walks by........but I bet she is not far. I will feel her in the breeze, and when I look at the flowers in the neighborhood and catching a fragrance here and there. RIP, Marty. Bet you are already creating more gardens. Peace to the family.
