Banks, M.D., Mark William Age 70, of Sanibel, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Survived by his wife of 45 years, Gretchen Banks; and son, Matt Banks. Mark was born in Duluth, MN and graduated from Edina High School in 1967. He graduated from Carleton College and received his M.D. degree from the University of Minnesota. He specialized in Internal Medicine and was in private practice in Edina, MN for ten years. He went into administrative medicine, ultimately at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota. He served as CEO of the company until he retired in 2008. He was greatly admired by family and friends as a person who was accomplished, generous, and kind, and a model of courage in the face of adversity. And some say that he had a delightful sense of humor. He had a multitude of interests beyond medicine, including fishing; collecting art, antiques and wine; photography and nature. We will miss his kind spirit greatly.
