“Margaret Kelly, 60, of Lynn Center, formerly of St. Charles, Ill., passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007. It was Margaret’s request to have her remains donated for medical science. A celebration of her life will be at the Church of Peace, 1114 12th St., Rock Island, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, followed by a gathering at the Quad City Botanical Center, 2525 4th Ave., Rock Island, from 3 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Doctors without Borders (www.doctorswithoutborders.org or (888) 392-0392), Global Ministries United Church of Christ (www.leukemia.org). Born March 30, 1947, in Prescott, Wis., she was the oldest of Stan and Millicent Christiansen’s four children. Growing up on the family farm, Margaret was active in 4H Club, horseback riding, raising pigs and gardening. After graduating high school as class valedictorian, she enrolled in college and earned her bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in 1970. She later received a Master of Business Administration in finance and marketing from North Central College in 1996. During her years of employment, Margaret spent the majority of her career in telecommunications and IT fields. Her last position was with Henry County in the G.I.S. department. When not nurturing her family, Margaret’s interests included reading, travel and photography, for which she won numerous awards. She also was active in the church and charitable organizations throughout her life. In May and June of 2007, Margaret achieved a life’s goal by hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in the Peruvian Andes. Margaret is survived by her husband, Doc (Michael); her daughter, Meghan(Luke) Cooley, Rock Island; her son, Eric Fistler (fiancee, Nina Jansson), Northampton, Mass.; her mother, Millicent Christiansen, Prescott; brother, Kim(Becky) Christiansen, Ames, Iowa; sister, Jan(Larry) Gordon, Dobson, N.C.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
