Leda Higgins ’71

Higgins Leda C. of Oakland died on November 7, 2001, after months of struggle related to complications after a heart-lung transplant. She was born March 14, 1949 to Dorothy and John Higgins. She celebrated her “new” birthday on October 26, 2000, the day that she received a heart-double lung transplant at Stanford University. Leda enjoyed the excitement and vitality of her new life and was thrilled to share it, however briefly, with her friends and family. Leda graduated from Occidental College in 1972 and received an MBA from Washington University in 1980. After retirement from work as an accountant, Leda devoted her life to her passions: social justice issues, including the East Bay Sanctuary Covenant and groups at Newman Hall, Holy Spirit Parish; transplant support groups; her cats; bluegrass; and baseball. Leda has been a rabid Oakland A’s fan for many years and will always be cheering on her team! Leda’s fervor for life and her unflagging determination inspired h! er! family and her many friends. She is survived by her brothers Steve and Matthew, sisters Ann, Kate and Jane; sisters and brother-in-law; nieces, nephews and loving, supportive friends.
