This obituary for Laura Miller was printed in the New York Times in early August.

Laura Jeanne Miller, 57, of New York City died suddenly on July 30, 2016. A job in her youth selling seeds to feed & grain stores helped focus her dreams towards a marketing MBA (at Columbia University School of Business) and a marketing directorship at a great museum in New York City. She achieved that dream following a time at American Express, joining the Guggenheim Museum twenty-one years ago. A triathlete as well as an art-lover, she was herself most impressed by her young son Jesse’s striving to find and pursue his own life’s course.

Born in Rochester, NY, Laura enjoyed photographing third world markets and studio art courses. She spoke internationally on museum branding and marketing, always returned home with good chocolate and gifts of indigenous art, and taught her expertise at NYU. A prolonged midwinter furnace problem in student housing once caused her to adopt as her own an aphorism she had learned from a renowned eccentric aunt: “Never deny yourself the luxury of long underwear!” She repeated it often if someone complained about the cold or otherwise suggested that life was to be restrained by some natural circumstance.

Laura is survived by beloved family and friends including her son Jesse Geoghan and his father Paul Geoghan, mother Elizabeth, brothers Jack (Sarah Jelley), Michael (Susan Sirmones-Miller), sisters Nancy, Ellen (Steven Goldstein), Lynn, stepson Sean Geoghan, nieces and nephew Chloe Goldstein, Amelia Coleman, and Ben Goldstein (Jessica), cousins Michael, Margie (David Reuther) and Anny (Terry) Brykczynski along with friends and colleagues from New York Road Runners, AAM, her tennis group, book club, NYU Marketing Students, and treasured co-op neighbors.

A celebration of Laura’s life is being planned for October in NYC.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Central Park Conservancy, Planned Parenthood, Carleton College Weitz Center for Creativity, Columbia University Business School, The Lighthouse, or City Harvest.

    Hello,

I am Laura's brother and the author of the original obituary which ran in the NY Times August 12-14, 2016.

For those who knew and cared for my sister Laura, you may wish to google "NY Times obituary, Laura Jeanne Miller" which contains certain facts which have been inexplicably omitted or changed here, including one surviving cousin's name.

    Thank you,
