Larry came to Carleton from Shaker Heights High School, Ohio. He graduated Carleton magna cum laude in biology. In his 50th reunion notes, he recalled welcome encouragement from Reed Whittemore, classes with Dr. Ramette “where only the professor’s dog had the nerve to fall asleep” and the day we all remember in November 1963 when President Kennedy was killed.
After Carleton, Larry went on to obtain his MD at Johns Hopkins University, then advanced training at Cleveland Metropolitan Hospital and at the University of Colorado in Endocrinology. He served years as Chief of Endocrinology at Kaiser Permanente in Denver, Colorado.
After retirement from formal medicine, he volunteered in Ethiopia and Barbuda with his family, and later visited Thailand, China, Bali, Laos, Greece and Italy. The personal and professional relationships forged in his travels grew into lasting sponsorships to support individuals’ education and professional development.
A teacher at heart, he provided support and mentorship to countless trainees.
His final message in our 50th reunion year was a fervent “hope that somehow this world learns to get along.”
