Ken was born in Canada, then moved to the US at age 5. Ken considered Evanston, Illinois his home town and graduated from Evanston Township High School.

While at Carleton, Ken met and fell in love with classmate Marlou Garbisch. They were married a week after graduation in 1964. After Carleton, Ken enrolled in medical school at Northwestern University, graduating in the class of 1970. He completed residency in Otolaryngology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.

Ken and Marlou moved to Bourbonnais, Illinois near Kankakee, where he maintained a lifelong practice in Otolaryngology and served on the Board of Directors of Riverside Medical Center. A “life long learner” according to his daughter Nancy, Ken also earned an MBA from Olivet Nazarene University. He wrote a weekly op-ed column for the Kankakee Daily Journal on current events. Ken’s favorite time was around the family home on the Kankakee River, passing on his love of birding, wild animals and nature to his family.

In recent months Ken and Marlou left the long-time family home in Bourbonnais and moved to Zionsville, Indiana to be near family.
