Katie came to Carleton from Wheaton Community High School Illinois. She dated Carleton classmate Peter Basquin, who came to Carleton from Northfield High School with classmates Bill Larsen, Bob Mears, Lyle Otte and Jim Thun. Katie and Peter were married five weeks after our Carleton graduation.
Katie and Peter started a treasured time in their lives filled with music festivals and concerts in multiple cities. In her words, it was also an “extreme delight and privilege of listening to classical music, beautifully played, in my house, by my partner, lover and best friend.”
Though turning down many opportunities to work full time, Katie was a valuable member of the family music team; a counselor, a confidant, a supporter, and a loving partner.
She also used her talents in many different ways away from music. She was a docent in the historic Trinity Church, Wall Street. She explored photography, ikebana, knitting, birdwatching, and crocheting.
With Peter, she loved the cultural exposures, the multiple languages, and the ethnic flavors of New York City.
When opportunities permitted, she and Peter attended Carleton reunions and mini reunions where Peter frequently played the piano for classmates.
Her classmates and other Carls appreciated her knowledge, organizing skills and literary insights in participating in the 1964 Carleton book club.
Katie had many admirers and friends. She loved people. People loved her.
