Judith graduated from Ela Vernon High School in Prairie View, Illinois. After Carleton, she taught high school English and drama until she married fellow Carleton graduate Stephen Rhodes in 1966.
She later took graduate study in English at the University of Iowa where she focused on the poetry of William Blake.
Judy was always committed to education, whether working on school board issues or neighborhood school projects. Most of all, she appreciated and loved children, dedicating herself to nurturing and enhancing their lives. All her live she felt close to trees, plants and animals, always finding time to be in touch with nature. She loved working in her gardens. Of all her interests, her family was the most important.
