MADISON, Wisconsin / James D. Carson passed away at his home in Madison, Wisconsin, on February 11, 2015, alter a one-year battle with cancer. He was born in Forest City, Iowa, to Carroll and Esther (Johnson) Carson on June 17, 1948. James was better known as both “Jamie” and “Carson.” He graduated from Forest City High School in 1966 and attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. He served in the US Army, was wounded and discharged. He received a degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He married Mary Bumann on March 9, 1981. Early loves of learning, traveling, and animals remained lifetime passions which he pursued with Mary in many ways throughout their years together. His most recent degree was that of Nurse Practitioner in 2003. He served in that capacity at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center until 2014. James was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, David Carson and David’s wife, Martha; and nephew, Paul D. Carson. He is survived by his wife Mary, his brother John (Nita) Carson and their four children and families, his brother Caroll (Janell) Carson and their three children and families, his niece Kathy (Breck) McHan and their two children and families, and dear friends, colleagues, and patients who will all miss his generous love and care.
