Billie Kress was the first person who truly made me feel like I made the right decision when I chose to attend Carleton. I only knew her tangentially, but her generosity and vivid personality left a mark on me. Throughout my college application process, I was working at her daughter's independent bookstore in Green Bay, WI. Suffice it to say that I was a nervous wreck throughout the process. When Billie learned that I had been accepted to Carleton she immediately marched into the store and told me all about her experiences there. She clearly loved the school. A few weeks later, I came into work to find her standing by the register and not one, but three Carleton t-shirts in her arms for me. In her words, "I couldn't only pick one." I will never forget her generosity, love of life, and spark.
