Ellen majored in Jewish studies and was a leader of the Jewish Students of Carleton organization. She went on to become a Jewish studies scholar in her professional life. I was friends with Ellen for all four years at Carleton, and was friends with her identical twin sister Cathy in grad school at the University of Wisconsin. It was visual stereo when Ellen came to Madison for a visit and I saw the two of them together!
