Libby died on November 25, 2025 in hospice care at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC. Libby died surrounded by family and friends from a stroke secondary to multiple cancers. Libby’s life was dedicated to learning, teaching and scholarship in colonial American history including Presbyterian history in colonial America. She received a masters degree from Claremont College, Claremont, CA and her Ph.D. In History from the University of Delaware. Libby was an Associate Professor of History Emerita at Mississippi State University.
Surviving Libby are her husband, William H. Graves, and daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Shaw and her family (Charles C. Shaw, USAF Ret., Cady Shaw, and Patrick Shaw), her sister. Lorna Sullivan, and nieces and nephews. Memorial gifts may be made to Carleton College or Presbyterian Historical Society, Pittsburgh, PA.
