David was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, but spent much of his youth moving around the country with his family. He graduated from Austin High School in Chicago. He came to Carleton as a transfer student and is listed as a graduating classmate in our commencement program for class of ‘64. At Carleton he claims he “majored in math and minored in bridge.”
Success in classes at City College of New York led David to a PhD in computer science from Ohio State University. Driven by his “passion to know,” David followed an ad for a computer programmer. Thereafter, he enjoyed a 50 year career in computer software.
He co-founded Software Quality Engineering Company in 1986 and was President of Clearspecs Enterprises at the time of our 50th class reunion.
He also wrote a book, Requiring Development, that provided techniques and tools to understand the various roles of software in problem challenges and solutions.
In our class 50th reunion book, he shares his belief that “in a world of increasing complexity, where multiple careers are common…the ability to direct your own learning is of utmost importance. This is a message I intend to share with my grandchildren.”
David’s last residence was Golden Valley, Minnesota.
