I didn't know Bruce myself, but he was well-known on campus as being one of the group of all-male cheerleaders for the women's lacrosse team, if I remember correctly. Their cheers included "Four-six-eight-ten, our girls got the estrogen!" It was this kind of humor -- and this kind of person -- that I associated with my time at Carleton.
Known to many Freshman year as Super Banacek, Bruce flourished at Carleton. He found there a circle of friends who groaned but also laughed at his endless puns and listened to the words of his physics opera (bits of which I still remember and laugh at) that he sang with gusto. While he mellowed, slightly, over the years, he kept his energy and enthusiasm. I was lucky to meet him at Carleton and lucky to keep him as a friend after. I miss him.
