I was a student of Professor Bernard John Maegi, when he was on a Fullbridge scholarship at the University of Tartu, Estonia. I found his course almost by chance, pure coincidence of life. And that was something very inspirational, not only because it motivated me to have a great interest in human displacement in the 20th century, something I am currently working on with my doctoral thesis. I also found his method of addressing historical issues stimulating, seeking the students' reaction, through dramatizations. Today, several years late, I found on the Internet about the death of Professor Bernard, when I was about to contact him to request his collaboration. I was very surprised by the news of his death in 2018, just two years after we met. He was still a young person, a strong, cheerful man, a great gentleman. I don't know how he died but I wish that wherever he is, his soul rests in peace.
