Barbara Madsen, Ph.D., Ann Arbor, MI, age 50, passed away at her home on June 3, 2005. She was born the daughter of Charles and Dorothy, nee Loesch, Madsen in Oak Park, IL on Sept. 7, 1954. She graduated from Lyons Twp. High School in 1972, and then attended Carlton College in Carlton, MN where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree. Barbara went on to attend Cambridge University, having earned the Winston Churchill Scholarship. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Michigan in Botanical Sciences, then working at a field station as a field biologist. Most recently she worked for the Cranbrook Institute of Science as a collections manager. Barbara had spent the last 25 years in Ann Arbor. Some of her activities included being a member of the Vox Early Music Ensemble, which sang at numerous churches in the area. She also was an expert witness in environmental legal cases. Survivors include her father, Charles J. Madsen; her brother, Gary Charles (Deborah) Madsen; her sister-in-law, Louise Madsen; and her nieces, Allegra Madsen and Katrina Madsen. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy; and her brother, Keith.
