An obituary from the Minneapolis Star Tribune

Douglas R. Jones, Age 76, of Edina, died peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, February 16. Born on June 20, 1941 to Ralph and Florence Jones, Doug grew up in Gaylord, a town he dearly loved. He attended Carleton College, where he majored in math, and Stanford Business School. At Carleton, he met Sarah Hawthorne, and they married in 1965.

Doug worked at Pillsbury and Chandler-Wilbert, and then had the good fortune of joining Caswell International, where he rounded out his successful business career. He was also an active volunteer at the United Way, Colonial Church, and the Edina Football Association. His favorite place on earth was the family cabin at Eagle Lake, where he spent many hours tinkering in the garage or watching the sunset from the deck. Doug loved his three boys, and he and Sarah took several memorable trips in their retirement both with them and their grandchildren.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bruce. He is survived by his wife, Sarah, his sons Tony (Courtney), Andrew (Shannon), and Ted (Sara), his adopted son, Cavonte, and ten grandchildren. Funeral service Friday, February 23rd, 11am at Colonial Church, 6200 Colonial Way, Edina, followed by a lunch reception. Private interment to follow at a later date. Memorials preferred to Carleton College and the Colonial Church Foundation.

How we will miss Doug at family gatherings and at Carleton events! This June at our 55th reunion the Class of 1963 will be saddened at his loss and will celebrate his life. In addition to the survivors listed, Doug's granddaughter Sarah Alice Jones (2020) and his grandniece Kelsey Plank (2018) carry on the tradition of studying at Carleton.
