    Carol (Smith) Ligare ’51 P72 P78 P80 W50 died peacefully November 11, 2019 in Appleton, Wisconsin, just weeks before her 90th birthday.

    Carol was an active member of her local community and church, as well as a fervent supporter of Carleton.  She served on the Alumni Council, volunteered with the Alumni Annual Fund, served as a Class Correspondent and Reunion Committee member, and was a long-standing Alumni Admissions Representative.  In 1995, Carleton College bestowed the Alumni Exceptional Service Award to Carol and her husband for their long-standing and varied contributions to the college. 

    Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Ken ’50, her sister Joyce Smith Steinke ’44 and her brother-in-law William Steinke ’42.  Her survivors include her sister Norma Smith Christopher ’46 P74; her three children: Kathleen ‘72, Martin ‘78, and Douglas ’80; her nephew Bruce Christopher ’74; and her grandnephew Rhys Lindmark ’13.
