Morgan Pearce Lloyd, MD

Born in Illinois in 1930 to Emily Jenkins Lloyd and Charles Lloyd, Morgan Pearce Lloyd died on December 15, 2022.

After a childhood and college life in the Midwest, Morgan met Christie Russell when she worked as a counselor at his mother’s summer camp in Green Lake, Wisconsin.  They were married in 1955.  Together they had 67 years full of love for each other, their children, and a life of wonderful experiences.

To his four children Morgan was present, loving, interested and proud.  He was full of (sometimes appreciated) advice and fun. His love of the outdoors—camping, canoeing, and sailing inspired many wonderful afternoons and fantastic vacations.

Professionally he was personal in his care of patients, as thorough with explanations as with his surgical and medical skills.  He appreciated each of his colleagues and delighted in what they accomplished together.  Morgan was proud of his long service in the Navy where he started as a line officer on a destroyer and completed his service as a medical officer.

To all who knew him, Morgan was a sportsman, playing tennis in his California years and enjoying long canoe trips from his teen years into his 60s.  A singing Welshman, Morgan was an appreciator of music, from Cat Stevens to opera and a supporter of the arts.  He was a thoughtful reader who enjoyed recounting novels and discussing nonfiction works.

Most of all, Morgan was genuine, loyal, a constant learner and teacher with a great sense of humor.

Pre-deceased by his parents and sister, Beverly, and son-in-law William Walton, he is survived by his wife, Christie, children, Ann Bates, Rita Lloyd (Peter Ostlind),  Margaret Robertson (Stephen),  and Charles Lloyd (Kathleen) as well as his grandchildren, Bryan Bates (Alexis), Katie Heidsiek (Matthias), Nancy Chapman (Leigh), Sarah Robertson, William Robertson (Mackenzie Leavenworth), Morgan N. Lloyd (Katherine Grisham) and Elliott Lloyd, one great-grandchild, Myles Bates, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is greatly missed and will be daily remembered.

A memorial service for family will be held in Minnesota at a later date.  Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara, Music Academy of the West or a cause of your choice.
