I met Liz, who like me lived on 2nd Goodhue for our first year, right away. From that moment till she left Carleton for good late in our sophomore year, she was a joy to have as a friend. I recall many hours of laughter until late into the night, her gravelly voice in confidences and acute observations, her talents in art and literature, and her winning eccentricities. I vividly recall the night that she, Jim Fast, and I walked around the Bald Spot, stopping under the streetlights to read Eliot's "Prufrock" aloud. I think of her often.
