Robert Pulliam ’69 P99

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Former local resident, Dr. Robert Lee Pulliam III, 55, died April 10, 2003, as the result of a skiing accident. He was born May 2, 1947, in Longview, Wash., and graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1965. He graduated summa cum laude from Carleton College in Minnesota and earned his medical degree at the University of Washington Medical School in 1973, where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Pulliam practiced family medicine in Cashmere, Wash., before studying internal medicine at Oregon Health and Sciences University. He completed his fellowship in cardiology in Albuquerque, N.M., and returned to Longview to practice for several years. He moved to Anchorage in the late 1990s to become a partner in the Alaska Heart Institute. He was an avid reader and loved classical music, the outdoors, cross-country and downhill skiing, bicycling and backpacking. Survivors include three children, Sarah Pulliam of Seattle, Andrew Pulliam of Portland, Ore., and David Pulliam of Eugene, Ore.; their mother, Patricia Callen Pulliam, of Portland; his mother, Margaret (Arneson) Pulliam, of Longview; two brothers, Dr. Andrew Pulliam of Wasilla, Alaska, and Dr. Thomas J. Pulliam of Winston-Salem; a sister, Ann Pulliam Peterson, of Camano Island, Wash.; and a special friend, Mary Scibelli, of Kalama, Wash. A memorial service will be held in Anchorage at a later date.
