An obituary from the Monterey (California) Herald
CARMEL – Joan Barrett passed away on March 7, 2013 from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. She was 72 years old. Joan was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. She earned a BA degree from Carleton College and an MA from Brown University. She moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1977 where she developed a strong interest in Early California poets and wildflowers. Joan combined her interests in poetry and wildflowers, with an added interest in photography, to publish two books.
She is survived by her brother, Richard F. Barrett (Allison), one niece and five nephews. The family wishes to thank all the caring and dedicated staff at Sunrise Senior Living, as well as the nurses from Hospice of the Central Coast. They are all deserving of great praise.
