Nancy Jean Boyer Strandmark, age 65, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on March 31, 1951 in Elmhurst, Illinois the daughter of the late Maurice W., Jr. and Dorothy Elizabeth Dunmore Boyer. She was raised in Elgin and Sycamore, Illinois, graduating in 1969 from Larkin High School and later from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota earning her bachelor degree in psychology. She was united in marriage on August 25, 1973 in Elgin to Steven Donald Strandmark (’72) and to this happy union of forty three years came two daughters and a son to bless their home.

The young family followed their careers to Minneapolis, Austin, and Sterling, Illinois before settling in Madison in 1989. Nancy was called to work as a counselor beginning with positions in several residential facilities caring for people with developmental disabilities and ending with her retirement in June, 2014 as an elementary school counselor with the Madison Consolidated School System.

She later became a charter member of the Golden Retrievers, a group of retired teachers and support staff. Nancy was a faithful member and ordained Elder of the Madison Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the church choir, performed in the hand bell choir, and formerly served on the Session and the church preschool board of directors.

Nancy was a family-centered person. She could trace her lineage to the crossing of the Mayflower and count several of her relatives as veterans of the Revolutionary War. She cherished time spent with her beloved family and grandchildren and spent a period of every year of her life but one at Dunmovin’, the cottage built by her grandfather in Door County on the shores of Green Bay, watching the sunsets. She also enjoyed reading, crafts, sewing, playing tennis and bridge, and cheering her beloved Chicago Cubs onto victory in the 2016 World Series.

Nancy died on Friday, December 30, 2016 at the Hosparus Inpatient Unit of Norton Pavilion in Louisville, Kentucky after a long fight with breast cancer.
