John came to Carleton from St. Paul MN. He majored in Biology. After graduating he received a MD degree at the University of Minnesota followed by a Diagnostic Radiology Residency. Two years at NIH fulfilled his military service obligation.
In 1974 he moved to Kalamazoo and joined a group practice. John enjoyed travel and adventure and highlighted two favorite trips both with his kids; rafting the Grand Canyon and sailing in the BVI’s. After turning 60, John slowed down by resigning from his group practice. He took a job as a “night hawk” at the St. Paul trauma center. This required working seven consecutive 10 hour shifts overnight with the next two weeks off. His two weeks off he chose to spend time between homes in Florida and near Lake Michigan depending on the season. He fully retired in 2010, dividing his time equally between FL and MI.
He had two children; both were Carleton graduates.
John was diagnosed in January of 2015 and died December 29, 2016.
