Peggy “Peg” Sweitzer ’71 has demonstrated decades of devoted, influential leadership and a passionate commitment to the Carleton community, serving as a pillar of support for both her classmates and the institution. Her deep affection for the College is rooted in her own experience as an English Major, a first-generation college student, and a financial aid recipient, which has fueled her lifelong advocacy for student access and philanthropy. She is particularly grateful for how her classmates enriched her life while students together and through lifelong friendships. Sweitzer’s record of service is extensive, spanning numerous critical volunteer roles. She has been a consistent member of the Class Reunion Program Committee for her 35th, 40th, and 45th reunions. Most notably, she served as a tri-chair for the Class of 1971 50th Reunion planning committee. During the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, she provided stalwart leadership, successfully pivoting to manage both a complex virtual Reunion in 2021 and an in-person celebration in 2022. Her creative contributions included spearheading the publication of an illustrated children’s book of poetry featuring classmates’ talents. Beyond Reunion planning, Sweitzer served on the Campaign Steering Committee for the Breaking Barriers, Creating Connections campaign (2006–2010), where she provided strategic counsel during a difficult economic period. Her philanthropic legacy includes establishing the Sweitzer Family Endowed Scholarship in 2007, which has supported over 80 students. Additionally, she has served as an alumni admissions representative and an assistant class agent for the Alumni Annual Fund. Known for her creativity, resilience, and personal engagement with students and classmates, she exemplifies exceptional service grounded in generosity, leadership, and community.
