Melissa Albay ’90 has had a truly exceptional dedication to Carleton and contagious passion for the College that inspires classmates, alumni, and students across diverse generations and experiences. Empowering alumni efforts through joy, empathy, and humor, she inspires every council, committee, and board she has served on.

She has been an active and pivotal volunteer, notably serving as a class agent for the Alumni Annual Fund since 2005 and chairing her 30th and 35th Reunion Gift Committees. Her efforts have significantly revitalized the Class of 1990’s engagement with the College, transforming them into a leading class for annual giving participation.

Albay’s leadership extends to the Alumni Annual Fund Board, where she served from 2019 to 2024, including a term as chair. Her tenure was marked by innovative strategies to encourage alumni participation and a keen focus on inclusivity and diversity. She played a crucial role in the success of initiatives like Maize and Blue Daize and Coffee with Carls, which strengthened bonds across the Carleton alumni network.

Her commitment is also evident in her personal efforts to connect with fellow alumni and students. Albay has been known to send hundreds of handwritten notes to encourage and thank donors, host meaningful gatherings for alumni, and provide support to current students through networking and mentorship.

Beyond her formal roles, Albay has been a consistent presence at Carleton events, participating in more than 50 since 2020. Her involvement spans from Reunion planning and trustee meetings to Multicultural Alumni Network (MCAN) events, showcasing her wide-ranging dedication. In all she does, she is an exceptional ambassador and advocate for Carleton, passionate about the value of a liberal arts education and committed to making the Carleton community ever more vital and inclusive.
