Lawrence Henry ’76 is a dedicated musical leader who has been crucial to the long-loved Carleton Reunion traditions of the Parade of Classes, Alumni Convocation, and the Multifaith Service of Remembrance and Celebration. A proud member of the Class of 1976, Henry’s deep-rooted love for the College began during his undergraduate years, where choral music and the Chapel experience formed a central part of his Carleton identity as he studied music. Since 1989, Henry has been the anchor of the Alumni Choir, serving as its director for 36 years. His leadership is characterized by his reliable presence and welcoming spirit that brings together alumni spanning nine decades of College history. Beyond conducting, he is a versatile musician who plays the organ, piano, and carillon. His contributions are vital to Reunion’s multifaith Sunday service, where he meticulously selects repertoire that honors the diversity of the alumni body while maintaining high musical standards. His achievements extend into his professional life in the Twin Cities, where he serves as a professional organist for various congregations and a dedicated music educator and accompanist. At Carleton, his work provides a spiritual touchpoint for returning Carls, unlocking powerful emotions through harmony and song. His years of faithful, professional, and voluntary leadership have provided an essential sense of continuity and joy, ensuring that the living traditions of Carleton’s Reunion remain vibrant for every generation. Without his valued contributions, Reunion weekend would not be the same.
