With readings from two brand-new books—From the Flutes of Our Bones and Free Papers: Poems Inspired by the Testimony of Eliza Winston, a Mississippi Slave Escaped to Freedom in Minnesota in 1860—Easter will weave together the threads of an endlessly creative career.
About the speaker
Mary Easter is the Rae Schupack Nathan Professor of Dance and the Performing Arts, Emerita. At Carleton, where she taught from 1969 to 2008, she founded the dance program and served as the director of the African/African-American Studies program. Her dance work has been featured nationally, and her choreographic and literary honors include a Bush Artist Fellowship, several awards from the McKnight Foundation, the Loft Creative Non-Fiction Award, and numerous residencies. Her 2018 work The Body of the World was a Minnesota Book Award finalist.
