Carleton Connects: Gretchen Hofmeister ’85 on the new Science Center

Gretchen Hofmeister ’85, Professor of Chemistry and Associate Dean of the College, gives an in-depth introduction to the goals and the progress of Carleton’s new Science Center, which is under construction at the center of campus.  You’ll get a sneak peek inside the building as Hofmeister leads a webcam tour of the construction site, including classrooms, labs, the atrium, marvelous views of the surrounding campus, and even a look at Carleton’s famous old tunnel system.  Get your virtual hard hats ready!

About the Speaker

An ’85 chemistry major, Hofmeister has taught organic chemistry at Carleton since 2002.  Her research focuses on developing new catalysts for organic synthesis and understanding how they control the three-dimensional structures of molecular precursors to pharmaceuticals and other useful products. She has served since 2016 as the Associate Dean of the College, in which role she has been deeply involved with the design and progress of the Integrated Science Facility.
