Our plans for a 25th Reunion celebration on campus dissolved like so many other plans in 2020. Here are some virtual events from 2021!

Class of ’95 Jeopardy Game Night
Saturday, May 15th
5:30-7:30 pm CT via Zoom

Hosted by Christine Quimby, J Nelson, Adam Prawer-Stock, and Susi Votruba.

At 5:30 we mingled and warmed up our grey matter. We set up teams and started the trivia play at 6:00 p.m. We tested our knowledge on the Arb, Notable ’95ers, 1990’s culture, and more. Work hard, play harder, guess hardest.

Facing Whiteness: Looking Back 25 Years
Thursday, May 20th
7:00-8:30 pm CT via Zoom

Hosted by Susan Rodgers, Holli Gajadhar, Mike Gaud, Christine Quimby, and Dawn Dilley.

Regardless of our origins and experiences before college, Carleton was a time of growth for each of us in our understanding of racism. Most of us engaged in discussions in and out of the classroom, were galvanized by campus events (such as The Bell Curve debate), and national events (such as the Rodney King verdict), and tried to enter the “real” world as better people. While our Carleton experience has guided us over the past quarter-century, the combination of persistent racial injustice, additional life experience, and evolving public understandings of racism may lead us to question what we thought (and did) about racism then. As Maya Angelou said, “I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.” In this spirit, the Class of ’95 hosted an opportunity to reflect on what we remember from Carleton, how it changed us then, how we have grown since Carleton, and where that leads us in our own antiracism journeys. In particular, this event provided an opportunity for the Class of ’95 to engage each other intentionally and meaningfully around the role of whiteness in perpetuating and dismantling racism.

Oral History Sessions
Wednesday, June 2nd
7:00-8:00 pm and 8:15 – 9:15 pm CT via Zoom

These group interviews were an opportunity for classmates to share their impressions of their time as students at Carleton: classes, classmates, campus life, and the climate of the times. These hour-long conversations were moderated by Carleton Archives staff members, and the recorded conversations remain in the Archives. Each of the two conversations were limited to 15 participants.

Dance Party with Class of ’96
Saturday, June 5th
7:00-9:00 pm CT via Topia

Reminisced to great tunes from the early ’90s with classmates from ’95 and ’96. Joined DJs Phuc Vinh ’95, Liam Higgins ’96, and Pat Sukhum ’96.

Happy Hour
Friday, June 18th

We winded down our virtual Reunion with an engaging and casual Happy Hour hosted by Katy Hinman.
