No matter where we were from, no matter our backgrounds, interests, or passions, when we came to Carleton more than fifty years ago(!) we already shared a lot. We valued curiosity, ideas, connection, growth, compassion, community (no cars on campus!), and FUN. For many of us, these values were strengthened at Carleton and helped to determine our paths for the next fifty years.
We hope the 50th Reunion of the Class of 1977 can be an expression of those values. The committees planning our reunion are made up of 45 alums with vastly different life experiences and backgrounds. But we are united in our heartfelt desire to make this 50th reunion an unforgettable time of reflection and good cheer — with a few happy surprises you might not expect. Please join us. We need each other, now more than ever!

Thanks to everyone who answered the Reunion program preferences survey, we have a wealth of program ideas and guidance. If only we had 5 or 6 days of Reunion! While final decisions will be made by the full program committee later this spring, there will be a wide variety of events centered around learning, connection, exploration of campus and selves, hands-on co-creating, schmoozing / hanging out, and enjoying the creativity/artistry of our classmates.

Details of the format and schedule are still evolving. If you’re interested in participating, we’d like to know! Artists, crafters, makers, musicians, authors, filmmakers, dancers, and spoken word performers from the class of 1977 are encouraged to contact us at 50threunion@carleton.edu.

Arriving at Carleton in 1973, Sue Scott took a chance on the unfamiliar—trying out for choir and a fledgling women’s tennis team that would change her life. Under Coach Pat’s guidance, she didn’t just hone her backhand volley; she discovered leadership, resilience, and the power of belonging. Decades later, it’s not the wins she remembers, but the friendships, the growth, and the enduring ripple of a mentor who shaped who she became—and who she, in turn, would inspire.

Our 50th Reunion in June 2027 is a moment to reconnect, reflect, and celebrate the impact Carleton had on our lives—while paying it forward to future students. To mark the milestone, the Legacy Committee is rallying classmates to create a meaningful class gift through both immediate contributions and longer-term planned giving. Together, we have the chance to leave a lasting legacy that honors our shared experience and supports generations to come.

As we look ahead to our 50th Carleton Reunion, the Class of 1977 Outreach Committee invites you to be part of something special. Record a short, heartfelt video—just two minutes or less—reflecting on your journey, favorite memories, or the lessons that have stayed with you over the years. Whether it’s a meaningful insight, a funny story, or a glimpse into what brings you joy today, your voice will help bring our shared history to life. It’s simple to do, and every submission adds a personal touch to this milestone celebration.
