Strengthening the Carleton community begins with making sure all students feel welcome and supported. In addition to establishing the Class of 1974 Endowed Scholarship, our 50th Reunion Committee has also been discussing trends in youth mental health, which has been called the defining public health crisis of our time.

After learning about the resources and support that Carleton provides for students, as well as current challenges, our 50th Committee has agreed unanimously that it is critical to help the College secure a permanent facility for its Student Health and Counseling Center, and a portion of our Class of ’74 Fund will be dedicated to that purpose.

HELP STRENGTHEN OUR COMMUNITY

Plans and approvals for a brand-new Student Health and Counseling Center are already underway, and construction is set to begin June 2024. With an end date of September 2025, this project offers an opportunity for the Class of 1974 to make a positive difference on the student experience at Carleton.

Thanks to your generosity, we are delighted to report that we have fulfilled the Challenge put forth by Cathy and Lou Paglia and successfully met our fundraising goal to name the Class of 1974 Center and support Student Health and Counseling on campus. Achieving this milestone is an important stride in strengthening the facilities and programming students need for their health and wellbeing, ensuring they can fully engage in all aspects of their unique Carleton experiences.

This also means that In these final weeks of our 50th Reunion Gift campaign, we can turn our attention to our other Class Gift purpose: the Class of 1974 Endowed Scholarship. We hope you’ll join in this milestone 50th Reunion Gift effort. We can’t wait to celebrate with you in June!

In our 50th Reunion year, we have the flexibility to direct our giving to the initiatives that most move us individually, whether to the class scholarship, student health and wellness, or another purpose. The match opportunities for both of our Class Gift purposes have been incredibly inspiring ways to encourage all of us to take a step back and think carefully about the kind of impact we are poised to make for Carleton students.

On February 13, 2024, the Director of Student Health and Counseling, Marit Lysne, discussed Carleton’s holistic approach to student health and wellness and how 1974’s commitment to supporting the college’s new health center will impact student health on campus with our class via Zoom.
