New Heywood Challenge, ’72 Scholarships Will Bolster Diversity

28 January 2022

Our 50th reunion is a great time to give back to Carleton. There are many ways to do so. Here are two exciting options:

Join the Heywood Society, which recognizes those who’ve made deferred gifts to the college, and get an even bigger bang for your bucks. Each new Heywood Society designation will trigger a $7,200 gift to the Get Started Fund by Greg Melville ’72 and his wife Susan Fox. If we reach 72 Heywood Society members in our class (there are now 54), Greg and Susan will donate an additional $72,000 to the Get Started Fund. Boom! Get Started gets $201,600 more!

You can join the Heywood Society by designating Carleton as a beneficiary of your retirement funds, such as an IRA or 401K, something you can do without engaging a lawyer, or by making an estate provision for Carleton. Call 800-492-2275 or email 50threunion@carleton.edu and a staff member will guide you through the process.

The Class of ’72 Scholarship Fund will provide aid to the highest need students and support Carleton’s efforts to attract a more diverse student body. We’ve already grown this fund to $2.5 million, the largest class scholarship in college history. Thanks to the Schuler Access Initiative your gift will be doubled!
