Back in the days when our hearts were young and gay, April of 2019, to be exact, the two of us embarked on our mid-life careers as Carl-e-tonian editors. Little did we know what the ensuing years would portend, but, then again, no one did.

It’s hard to believe. . . but the end is in sight for our endless 50th reunion, a gathering in the works for more years than we spent at Carleton. We can see clearly now that if the good Lord’s willing and the Cannon don’t rise, we’ll be celebrating on campus in a matter of weeks. Although we’ve Zoomed with a number of you these last many months, it’s an understatement to say we can’t wait to see everyone in person.

Please join your Reunion planning committee and more than 95 classmates in celebrating your 50th Reunion on campus during a special August gathering. Those dates again are August 5-7, 2022, and 1970’s weekend schedule is available here.

A few months ago, during one of our Class of 1970 Happy Hour Zooms, the idea arose to get together on August 4th, the night before our Milestone Reunion. Some of our classmates asked whether I might be willing to turn this social get-together into a wine tasting, since I worked in the wine business before retiring.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water…
Now that most of us no longer have to worry about an unplanned pregnancy, another concern looms on the horizon: COVID. The college is taking precautions, outlined here. Briefly, everyone on campus will have attested to being vaccinated and boosted. Masks are encouraged (but not required) for indoor events. The college will accommodate those who prefer to eat meals outside.

In a time long ago (actually, it was October 2017), the Program Committee first met to develop a theme and to plan activities designed to entice classmates to join us for the 50th Reunion. The hours spent meeting, discussing, debating, and planning paid off. By March 2020, committee members and classmates were ready to lead a full array of inspiring and informative activities.

Heartfelt thanks go to:
1. Our committee, which worked very hard (and we hope had a lot of fun) communicating, reconnecting with classmates, and sometimes connecting for the first time. -
As co-chairs of the 50th Reunion Outreach Committee along with JoAnn Riecke and Diane Hinton Perry, Don Barry and Roxy Scott Barry want to thank all our hard-working members for their excellent efforts over these last 5 years. I think we speak for everyone when we say that we gained as much as we gave through these exercises, the best being the many renewed memories and friendships.
