Eric Johnson will lead the group on a short walk to the historic Northfield Depot which is in the process of being renovated (7:30-8:30 on Saturday morning). Northfield’s last scheduled passenger train ran in July 1969 (northbound from Kansas City to Minneapolis).
Three people will be presenting:
- Alice Thomas—from the booster club, will talk about the history of the Depot.
- Clark Webster is involved with the move and reconstruction of the Depot.
- Suzie Nakasian, City Council member will talk about reestablishment of a train south from St Paul to Kansas City, (has involved many mayors south of Northfield to Kansas).

The mission of the “Save the Northfield Depot” is to rescue and restore the Northfield Depot through communicating its historical significance and identifying a new location, owner(s), and user(s) in order to retain an important part of our heritage.
“Save the Northfield Depot Committee” is committed to:
- Historic Preservation: to protect and preserve a key part of the Northfield heritage and pride of place;
- Beautification: to assure the depot is appropriately maintained, free of blight and visual asset to the community;
- Economic Development: to provide a catalyst to the economic development in the city;
- Education: to educate the current and future generations about the rich history and the role of the railroads and the depot in Northfield;
- Building Community: to provide community gathering places to promote opportunities for social interaction and public events;
- Sustainability: reusing existing building is a responsible use of our resources.
