• New Release – An Eric Janus Film: The Heywood Society

    16 February 2018

Carleton recognizes alumni, parents, and friends who have made deferred, or “legacy,” gifts to benefit the College through membership in the Joseph Lee Heywood Society. With only 10 more new Heywood Members, our Class will achieve a record for the most members of the Heywood Society!  Please help us set that record! Will you be the next classmate to add your name to the list?  If you act now, your legacy commitment by April 15 will trigger $13,600 in challenge dollars from the 50th Reunion Planning Group and the 1866 Scholarship Match.  If you want more information about joining the Heywood Society, contact Jennifer Foth at Carleton: jfoth@carleton.edu or 507-222-4276.

A reminder from the 50th Reunion Planning Group

For the past eighteen months, the Planning Group has focused on creating a reunion designed uniquely for the class of 1968.  The 50th Reunion staff encouraged us to make this our own plan for our own classmates. That focus has guided everything that has been planned and we sincerely hope and expect that you will find a warm welcome and a memory-filled weekend.

Reunion registration opens on Thursday, March 1. Be sure to register soon as space fills up quickly–our class headquarters will be Watson Hall.

Co-chairs, Class of 1968 50th Reunion Planning Group

  • The pace picks up on Friday, with Alumni College presentations for all classes in the morning; a presentation from two of our own, George Jacobson and Sharon Nelson, on the “hot” topic of climate change in the afternoon; our class photo; then dinner and dessert with a presentation by David Lovell on forty years of work in and around prisons.    Click here to read more about Friday’s Schedule.

  • Prime the Pump

    They Served in Vietnam…

Reflecting on the circumstances we faced in 1968 when we graduated, perhaps one of the most powerful was the war in Vietnam and the resulting draft. John Cooke’s profile of the class tells us 38 entered one of the armed forces. At least 14 of those served in Vietnam and John Lambooy gave his life in combat there. At the same time, at least five were conscientious objectors, and others reported being active war protesters during that era. 20 people served in the Peace Corps, and five in VISTA. Click here to read excerpts from bio book entries from some of our classmates who served in, or whose life decisions were affected by, the war.

  • Bio book update

    16 February 2018

The 50th Reunion Bio Book is coming to you soon!  The bios indicate the amazing diversity of our class and their activities over five decades.  Read John Cooke’s summary of what the Class of 1968 “Experiment” produced, printed in the front.  A total of 217 of 355 classmates sent in their bios before submissions for the print version closed on Jan 30.  If you haven’t yet gotten past writer’s block (or whatever your excuse is), bios can still be submitted for the online Bio Book at the reunion website.  It’s easy – click here for instructions.

Thanks to Bio-Book Co-Chairs Richard and Mary Beard Deming for a terrific job.

  • Bio Book Project: Five Days to Submit Yours!

    14 January 2018

The Bio Book is still growing with the contributions of so many classmates. You can be one of them by posting your bio by January 30th. That “hard” deadline allows the college to produce and send the printed book with registration materials in early March. Rest assured that we still want to receive your story, whether it is a short one, a tall tale, wide ranging, or narrowly focused. Bios that come in after January 30th will be added online and then be featured in a printed addendum that will be provided at Reunion. Click on the image below to see how easy it is to submit your bio. Contact Richard (rdeming@fullerton.edu) or Mary (demingmb@hotmail.com) if you need guidance for posting your bio.”

  • Reunion Begins on Thursday

    14 January 2018

The Carleton College Class of 1968 50th Reunion, June 14-17, 2018, will continue the experiment begun in 1964. Everyone who was a part of our experimental class at Carleton is invited to come relive and renew the experiment. Make every effort to arrive on campus on Thursday, June 14th.  Check-in begins at 3:00 pm.  We’ll all come together for a reception at the new Weitz Center for Creativity, Music and Performance addition.  President Poskanzer will join us for a special welcome dinner.  After dinner, Marc Reigel ’67 and his friends will entertain us with a private Class of ’68 sing-along featuring some of our favorite tunes. (Click here to read more about the Night Crawlers or click here to visit Marc’s Facebook page).

Registration will open online on March 1. YOU are a special guest of Carleton College! Registration cost is only $50.00 per person for the entire weekend—lodging, meals and friends all included. Click here to see a list of who is planning to come to our 50th.

Don’t miss this experiment. Don’t miss this experience. It won’t come again . . . the once in a lifetime 50th college reunion.

  • Dear Carleton friends,

Walter and I had a great time at the Class of ’67 Reunion last weekend…in fact, we had a FANTASTIC time.  Lots of conversation, laughter, and relaxation.  All of the events were well planned, and as the 50th Reunion Group, the “red carpet” was laid out: special receptions, golf carts for quick (and fun) transportation, superb, healthy meals (with vegetarian option), and more.

  • New “4-1” Challenge Announced

    14 January 2018

Fired-up Reunion Committee Members Pledge $200,000 for New “4-to-1” Challenge

Your 50th Reunion Planning Group is so fired up by the outstanding response to the “Double the Impact” Challenge, which was fully subscribed before its scheduled expiration date of December 31, 2017, that they’ve pledged an additional $200,000 as a new challenge to encourage even more of you to leverage your gifts in support of Carleton.  We’re calling it the “4:1 Challenge!”  Here’s how it works:
